A Study Of Xu Fuguan's Poetics

Xu Fuguan was one of the representative scholars of modern "Neo Confucianism".In this generation,some scholars were of great significance in the choice of Chinese academic history when they confronted the strong influx of western literary theories and faced with the situation of that the others thought little of the Chinese traditional literary theory.Compared with Xiong Shili,Fang Dongmei,Tang Junyi,Mou Zongsan and other scholars,Xu was widely interested in literature and art and put a lot of effort on that.His poetic theory infiltrated the macroscopic poetic thought and specific theory with pertinence.Xu Fuguan's theory of poetry consists of four aspects.First of all,Xu thought that "Poetry is the essence of emotion",which is the basis of his poetics.Poetry with "True Temperament" and "Positive Temperament" is an ideal poem in traditional poetics.From the perspective of "Emotion","Gentleness and Sincerity" is the unique charm of Chinese traditional poetry.The second,Xu's poetry creation developed around specific poets.He emphasized the accomplishment of poets which came from traditional literary theory.The concept of "Gongli and Yongdian" and "Through the Ancient and Modern Times and Learn From a Number of Teachers" and "Subjective and Objective are the Same and a Fusion of Feelings with the Natural Setting " in the traditional poetics were explained by modern poetry theory.The third,Xu Fuguan thought Confucius and Taoist thoughts are the two major sources for Chinese traditional art spirit.Xu's theories of "Poetry and painting" and "Poetry and music" combined the east and west poetics,closely relating to the two sources,and constructed the modern discourse system of traditional poetics by the view of a wide poetical vision.Finally,the method of "Pursuing the experience" proposed by Xu Fuguan has the significance of modernity,breaking the boundary between the traditional academic textual criticism and argumentation,pointing directly to the drawbacks of the traditional "Qianjia School" and the modern "Scientific Demonstration",combining the poetics of Han and Song Dynasties for the ancient and modern.It not only has theoretical and practical significance,but has far-reaching cultural significance.
