A Report On The E-C Translation Of Mould Texts From The Perspective Of The Translator's Subjectivity

It is generally held that literary texts focus more on the aesthetic functions of language,thus in the translation process,the translator shall play a dynamic role in making the target language full of literary grace.However,scientific texts,which put more emphasis on the function of information and arc often written in plain language,make it possible for the translator to represent the ideas of the source text in simple words,with no need of considering the translator's subjectivity.Due to this fact,translation of mould texts,a typical type of sci-tech texts,is often in a dull and flat style without any linguistic color so that the translated texts are often too challenging to understand,and readers will feel too discouraged to read them through.Therefore,the ideology and elements of subjectivity of the translator is introduced into the translation process of mould texts,which will greatly enhance the readability of the target texts.Three aspects are included in the theory of the translator's subjectivity,namely,creativity,passivity and self-centeredness.In the translation process,the translator is expected to take on the identity of the author,the translator and readers so as to fully exert his or her subjectivity.To be specific,the translator,as a subject of the process,shall try every means to coordinate the relationship with the author of the text or even with the readers of the target language.This report is based on the theory of the translator's subjectivity and applies its three elements as a framework to analyze and study the translation process of mould texts by way of exemplification.As a summary of the translation work,the present report mainly explores on the translation of mould texts in the following aspects:First,it introduces the characteristics of mould texts,the theory of the translator's subjectivity and the translation research status of mould texts in turn.Next,a comprehensive research on mould texts translation is carried out from such dimensions as the creativity,passivity and self-centeredness of the translator.Last,the problems arising in the translation process are analyzed and tackled and related solutions are offered.This report is,on the one hand,helpful both in clarifying the characteristics of mould texts and in studying the translating strategies of mould texts as well.On the other hand,it is also expected to be helpful in the establishment of the professional standards and the supplement of the term bank of mould texts translation.Moreover,it is hoped to break through the stereotype that the theory of the translator's subjectivity can be only used in literary texts,so as to provide a broader line of thought for mould texts translation.Hopefully,the research will promote the technological cooperation and academic exchanges for the mould industry both at home and abroad.
