The translation of English for Defense Science and Technology(EDST)is usually considered a less acquainted expertise.Seldom are there studies focusing on a translator’s subjectivity in such translation activities.This research is conducted under the theoretical framework of Eco-translatology to study defence science and technology texts and illuminate the nature and qualities of EDST,indicating that E-C translation of defence science and technology texts is under the the influence of translators’ subjectivity.The research approach adopted in this dissertation includes a review of related theories and literature and then a qualitative method aiming to clarify the composition of translational eco-environment involved in EDST translation and the embodiments of translators’ subjectivity in producing target texts accordingly.The findings from this research provide evidence that the study of the translation practices of defence science and technology texts is a typical trans-disciplinary subject that converges theories on military science,translation studies,and social-cultural studies.Therefore,there is a room for translator’s subjective selections and judgements to play a role during the process of translation to improve the translation product.Through this study the author concludes that the subjectivity in EDST translation is a combination and interaction between individual translators and pertinent translational eco-environment and coordination mode.The author recommends that solid and viable translation quality management policies should be put into place to assist the subjective choices on the part of translators in order to finally improve the efficiency and effectiveness of EDST translation.
