With the acceleration of the global integration process and the increasingly frequent exchanges in science and technology at home and abroad, the role of EST is becoming increasingly prominent. In recent years, advanced technologies and new technological products in electronic communication field are emerging endlessly. At the same time, the emergence of a great number of original English books and materials makes scientific and technical workers have more opportunities to contact with foreign advanced technology. However, the unique style of EST produces difficulties for them due to numerous formulas, data, terminologies and norms as well as frequent use of passive voice, compound sentences and long sentences, which adds more difficulties to the translation. This requires that translators should not only acquire professional knowledge in science and technology, but also learn systematic knowledge of translation theories and master various translation skills, which enables them to select the most appropriate translating strategies and apply them skillfully in combination with the typical features of EST.Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to help the translator become familiar with the characteristics of EST and improve his or her translating ability.Nida pointed out that "translation is the most natural and natural counterparts in the target language to reproduce primitive information, first of all meaning, followed by style",which, the author believes, can be used to guide the translation of EST,since the translation of foreign advanced technology should be as close to the original text as possible and should be Chinese and Chinese readers-oriented to serve the purpose of introducing science and technology and transmitting scientific information. This thesis attempts to solve the problems a translator may encounter in the EST translation process, using Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. The author analyzes the stylistic features of EST at the lexical, syntactical and textual levels based on a sufficient number of examples chosen from electronic communication texts and conducts translation practice by selecting the most appropriate translation strategies under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory in order to verify the applicability of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory in E-C translation of electronic communications technology.
