The studies were based on dynamic social construction theory and cognitive styles aggregation theory, and mainly discussed the effect of selfconstrual on college students' wholistic-analytic cognitive styles.Study 1 and study 2 examined the effect of contextual self-construal on the wholisticanalytic cognitive style of college students.Study 3 and study 4 examined the effect of trait self-construal on the wholistic-analytic cognitive style of college students.Through the combination of these two research methods,we explored the impact of self-construal on college students' wholisticanalytic cognitive styles. And the study 1(or study 3)used the E-CSA-WA test to initially examine the differences in the wholistic-analytic cognitive styles of contextual(or trait)self-construal.Study 2(or study 4)examined the differences individual memory tasks of contextual(or trait)selfconstrual,to further examine the effect of contextual(or trait)selfconstrual on the wholistic-analytic cognitive style. The studys founds:(1)In the E-CSA-WA test, the priming effect of different self-construal can make college students shown different cognitive styles.Independence primed participants were more tended to analytical cognitive styles, and interdependence primed participants were more tended to wholistical cognitive styles, indicating that the contextual self-construal can effect the wholistic-analytical cognitive styles.(2)The individual memory tasks can effectively test the influence of contextual self-construal on the wholistic-analytical cognitive style.Independence primed participants were better able to show analytical cognitive styles. While interdependence primed participants were better able to show wholistical cognitive styles.(3)The result of the trait self-construal studies and contextual selfconstrual studies are the same in the E-CSA-WA tests and the individual memory tasks.(4)Both the results of the contextual studies and the trait studies have shown that self-construal has a significant influence on the wholistic-analytic cognitive style.
