English writing is an embodiment of students' comprehensive language ability and an important part of English teaching.For a long time,English writing ability of Chinese high school students is generally poor,and English writing teaching is a difficult task for many English teachers of senior high school.Wang Chuming(2012)proposes the continuation task,which requires learners to write a story with its ending removed in a coherent and logical way.This study will try to explore the application of continuation task in English writing teaching of senior high school,and discuss whether the application of continuation task can help to enhance senior high school students' interest in English writing and improve their English writing ability.The author will implement a 12-week experiment in Binjiang school of Ankang city,Shaanxi province.The research subjects are 86 students from two classes in grade one.One is the experimental class,the other is the controlled class.During the first week of the experiment,the author carries out the pre-questionnaire survey and finds that these students rarely consider the relationship between English reading and writing before they enter senior high school.At the same time,pretest is conducted in the two classes respectively.From the 2nd week to the 11 th week,the author adopts the continuation task in the experimental class and adopts the product approach in the controlled class.Both of these two classes are taught by the author.During the 12 th week,posttest and post-questionnaire are conducted in the experimental class and controlled class.The author compares the results of pretest and posttest from these two classes by SPSS25.0.The results show that the average score in pretest and posttest of the experimental class has been increased,while there is no obvious change of the average score in these two tests of the controlled class.To some extent,it proves that the application of the continuation task in English writing teaching will help senior high school students improve English writing ability.Besides,through the comparison between pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire,the author finds that the application of the continuation task in English writing teaching can also promote senior high school students' interest in English writing.Finally,the author hopes that this thesis can provide a useful reference for English teachers to improve English writing teaching of senior high school.
