As China's comprehensive national strength and its prestige keeps on rising, more foreigners begin to pay attention to China's Government Work Report. The Annual China's Government Work Report now has become one of the important ways to learn China's policies and future plans.China's Government Work Report has the features of three text types, namely: expressive text, informative text and vocative text, but with an emphasis on informative text.As an annually delivered official document,it requires the translation has to be faithful to the source text so that the target readers could comprehend the policies and plans accurately by reading the translation. In the researches and studies on Government Work Reports, scholars and experts focused much on summarizing relevant rendering experience and rendering techniques;or they focused on analyzing translation works with the Equivalent Theory.Very few of them did researches and studies on China's Government Work Report based on TAS.In this dissertation, therefore, the author will analyze the Chinese-English(C-E)translation of 2010 China's Government Work Report from the perspective of three-dimensional transformations and multi-dimensional integration.The(C-E)translation of 2010 China's GWR is from the official website of Central Compilation & Translation Bureau.Three-dimensional transformations and multi-dimensional integration is one of the two main principles in An Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection, the monograph written by Professor Hu Gengshen.Through this dissertation, the author intends to prove the possibility of analyzing Government Work Report based on TAS;tries to find out insufficient transformations in the three dimensions of the translation and tries to give his own very basic opinions and tentative suggestions on how the translators could improve the transformations for 2010 China's Government Work Report on linguisticdimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. The author,by doing so,hopes to give some reference to scholars and experts for their future studies and researches. This dissertation has five chapters. In the first chapter, the author gives introductions to research background, research objectives, data source and methodology of the research, significance of the research and the framework of the dissertation. In Chapter Two,the author gives a brief introduction to Three-dimensional Transformations and Multi-dimensional Integration and reviews the overseas and domestic researches of the theories. In Chapter Three, based on the text types theory proposed by Peter Newmark, the author analyzes the text type of China's GWR.China's GWR has the features of the three text types, but with an emphasis on informative text.In Chapter Four, the author tries to analyze the(C-E)translation of 2010 China's GWR from the perspective of Three-dimensional Transformations with examples of insufficient transformations in the three dimensions.Meanwhile, the author also tries to evaluate the(C-E)translation of 2010 China's GWR based on Multi-dimensional Integration;it is obvious that the insufficient transformations in the three dimensions would cause that target readers fail to comprehend the translation fully and accurately, especially, those who know nothing about the source language and source culture. Finally,in Chapter Five, the author makes a conclusion that in TAS,readers' feedback and translators/interpreters' ability are two of the three elements for evaluating the quality of translation.Translators, however, could hardly control readers' feedback;the only action translators could take to gain better readers' feedback is to improve the quality of the translation. There, however, are also many other factors that would affect readers' feedback, for instance, target culture, different ideologies, education background, etc. As for translators' /interpreters' ability,it is no doubt that the translators who are capable to undertake rendering Government Work Report must have passed strict exams and evaluations. They are surely qualifiedtranslators with rich relevant experience. In this case,we could tell that the two elements for evaluating the quality of translation, readers' feedback and translators/interpreters' ability, could hardly control or be changed by translators;if reader's feedback and translators/interpreters' ability, two of three elements of evaluating a translation's degree of Multi-dimensional Integration, cannot be changed, then the only way to improve the quality of the translation is to improve the transformations in the three dimensions In chapter Five, the author also concludes the analyses that have been made and the basic suggestions that have been given in Chapter Four and points out the limitation of this dissertation.
