Government Work Reports(GWR)are the political documents of high importance and authority to understand China's situation and policies.Achievements and deficiencies of Chinese government work, including the future prospects, are put forward in the report. With China's rising international status,Government Work Reports have drawn attention from people both at home and abroad.Unsuccessful C-E translation of Government Work Reports may be detrimental to the progress of foreign-oriented publicity as well as the building of China's positive international image.Henceforth, the official translation of 2014 Government Work Report is chosen as the research object, aiming to provide some constructive suggestions for the related C-E translation of publicity-orientated material. This thesis conducts a research on C-E Translation Strategies of 2014 GWR in light of Eco-translatology,which was put forward during the 3rd Asian Translator Symposium by Hu Gengshen in 2001.Over the past few years, the theory has increasingly captured worldwide attention and takes off as a brand new theory.Eco-translatology has been applied to explain a multitude of translation phenomenon and had received positive response. This thesis,on the basis of Eco-translatology,aims to make an in-depth exploration about the utility of translation strategies in the C-E Translation of Government Work Report from the aspects of language, culture and communication.Given the fact that Government Work Reports tend to use formal and rigorous terms and terms with Chinese culture characteristics as well as rhetorical devices like repetition and parallel, the thesis attempts to analyze and conclude proper and practical translation strategies during translator's adaption and selection. In the process of language adaption and selection, the translator should take the features of the target language's eco-environment into consideration, paying attention to the word usage and word order,or utilizing translation skills like deletion or interpretation to realize the transformation of adaption and selection in the aspect of language. In the process of cultural adaption and selection,it is recommended that deletion, interpretation, and literal translation plus explanation should be adopted to deal with the translation of the cultural information hidden in the allusions and terms with Chinese cultural features for the successful realization of the transformation of the culture adaption and selection. In order to achieve the realization of communication intention, translators should utilize the translation skills, like deletion, interpretation, and addition in the process of communication adaption and selection. In the end,the thesis tries to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the translation under the principle of "balance and harmony" and "Multi-dimensional integration" so as to highlight the instructive significance of Eco-translatology and provide references for the related C-E translation of publicity-orientated material.
