A Report On The Translation Of The Basics Of Cyber Safety:computer And Mobile Device Safety Made Easy

Nowadays,as a platform for the exchange,acquisition and sharing of information,network permeates all aspects of people's life,and the network security has become the focus of the public.The Basics of Cyber Safety: Computer and Mobile Device Safety Made Easy by John Sammons and Michael Cross is a direct and effective guide in the field of cyber safety,in which,chapter 2 “Before Connecting to the Internet” shows us the problems existing in the security of computers and mobile devices before users connect to the Internet,especially practical solutions for Web browser,Wi-Fi security,passwords and other issues.As the source text belongs to technical texts,it is difficult to translate the lexicon and deal with sentence structures for the ST involves a large number of technical terms as well as long and complex sentences.Moreover,the purpose of TT is to provide Chinese Internet users with knowledge about cyber safety,thus enhance their awareness.The translation strategy was discussed on the basis of the text analysis theory pointed by Christiane Nord,combining with the requirements of the commissioner.Specifically,the analysis was made from the knowledge,expectations and communicative role of TT audience,so that the translation can be accurate,readable,and consistent with the reading habits and ways of thinking of the readers.In addition,for improving the translation quality,the text was translated by the aid of SDL Trados 2015 with the creation of TM and Termbase.In this report,the author hopes to refine the application scope of Nord's text analysis theory by exploring the target text from TT audience,and by giving a translation suitable for domestic Internet users so as to achieve the task purpose,meanwhile,to provide reference for other translators when translating such texts.
