| Now great changes have taken in China’s professional language service industry.Applied translation plays a vital role in the process of learning,knowing and enriching the outside world.Language and culture have been in center stage of military operations.The great gap between cross-border languages has huge impact on modern wars.As one core of modern war service,military translation is attached much importance.Nowadays in the field of military studies,army culture,foreign(defense)language strategy and regional expertise have raised much attention in China.The report is based on the translation of Army Culture and Foreign Language Strategy(full text),a guiding document issued by the Department of Defense.It describes army culture and foreign language strategy from the dimensions of language skills and cultural capabilities and offers reliable reference for making the country’s language strategy and integrating the Army’s language capabilities resources.Through reading parallel texts,the author understands the language characteristics of English military texts.With the help of CAT tools,the author makes military termbase and translation memory.From the angle of text typology and technical writing,the author focuses on problems in translation process and shares some opinions,translation strategies and techniques about military translation.Through this translation practice,the author improves the translation skills and learns some basic procedures to handle certain type of texts.Besides,the author hopes to introduce America’s army culture and foreign language strategy and makes a little contribution to the military concepts exchanges.With the accelerated pace of internationalization,China’s army is participating in more and more international military actions and non-military actions.The importance of foreign language capability has become increasingly prominent.The building of language skills,regional expertise and cultural capacity in U.S.army is of great significance toChinese army.But at present China has no professional evaluation system to exam the army’s foreign language capability or unified standards of foreign language proficiency.America’s experience on building the capability of defense language will offer some guidance and reference for Chinese army.The author hopes through this report,the general public can have a better understanding of army culture and foreign language strategy.In the upcoming new round of military reform,Chinese army culture and foreign language building can enter a new stage. |
