A Report On C-E Translation Of 2017 Interim Report Of Agricultural Bank Of China

With the continuous economic development in China and the rest of the world,financial industry plays an increasingly important role.As an important form of financial texts,annual reports and interim reports are requisite deliveries for listed company to China Securities Regulatory Commission and the Stock Exchange.Therefore,there is a huge market demand for the translation of annual reports.As the main carrier of external information communication and the main carrier of information disclosure,the translation quality of annual reports will directly affect the impression of potential investors towards the enterprise,thus affecting the image and subsequent development of an enterprise.Annual reports and interim reports aim to attract capital through the disclosure of company business status to potential investors.Therefore,during the translation of such financial texts,reader response must be given top priority,which is consistent with “one must find the closest possible equivalence and enable the target language readers to understand the content as clearly as the source language receptors” proposed in Nida's functional equivalence theory.Consisting of introduction,literature review and theoretical support,analysis on financial text features and difficulties in the translation,method discussion,and conclusion part,this thesis,under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,analyzes difficulties such as financial terms,proper nouns,general words,terms with Chinese characteristics,long sentences,and subjectless sentences in the translation of the 2017 Interim Report of Agricultural Bank of China.At the same time,the author summarizes translation methods such as amplification,conversion,omission,combination,division,inversion,reference,substitution,and paraphrase,in order to achieve functional equivalence on all levels of financial texts.This project lays a solid foundation for translating similar documents in the future.Through the analysis of the translation practice and problems,the report aims to summarize the typical translation problems in the C-E translation of financial texts,provide valuable reference for other translators and guide translation practice in the future.
