Translating Chinese Electromechanical Product Instructions From The Perspective Of Nord's Functionalist Approach: Strategies And Methods

With the rapid development of China's foreign economy,the international trade has become increasingly close and various domestic products have rapidly dismembered the international market.The export of electromechanical products occupies a decisive position in China's foreign trade.Electromechanical product instruction is an integral part of the products.The quality of electromechanical product instruction and the quality of product has the same importance and seriousness.The text of the electromechanical product instruction is different from other types of instruction manuals.It has large number of mechanical components and the large amount of information,which not only require the standards and precision of scientific writing,so that users can accurately grasp the operation method of the products and solve the problems;but also need to have strong persuasion and attractiveness to enhance the desire of consumers and promote the performance of the enterprise;thus achieve the true purpose of product instructions.Therefore,the translation of the electromechanical product instruction needs to take full account of target consumers' language,cultural backgrounds and thinking habits,grasp the characteristics of products and languages,and accurately translate and achieve the communicative purpose of the translation.This report,under the guidance of the functionalist translation theory of Christiane Nord,by comparing and analyzing parallel corpus,attempts to summarize the problems encountered in the translation and bring up an appropriate solving scheme so as to provide reference for other translators to do translation.
