With increasing economic globalization and rapid development of science and technology, technical English writings are widely used.As one section of technical English, military texts are highly specialized with strong logic and frequently used. Therefore, the accurate translation of such text based on linguistic features is of importance practically and of some reference values in further research in this field. This report is based on translation of texts provided by Guilin Research Center for Government Digit Dissemination and Culture as a Soft Power. The author chose Estimates of Chinese Military Spending as the source text on which my current report is based.By analyzing the linguistic features of the source text from the perspective of lexical level and syntactic level, the report focuses on the translation of technical terms and long and complicated sentences under the guidance of Newmark's semantic and communicative translation theory. The thesis consists of five parts.Chapter one is a general introduction, including the background, the significance, the requirements of the project and the layout of the report.Chapter two is something about the preliminary works of the project, including three sections: analysis of the linguistic features of the source text;reference to parallel texts and other related materials;quality control.Chapter three lists the theoretical framework, giving an introduction to Newmark's communicative translation and semantic translation theories.Chapter four constitutes the core of the whole study,in which, the author discusses how to translate the technical terms and long and complicated sentences in the source under the guidance of Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation methods. The last chapter is the conclusion.
