As the core of English speaking country's faith in the humanities all this time,English literature has a profound influence on the development of western literature.Development and progress of world literature need translation acting as a bridge to achieve exchange,collision and communication.Literary translation plays a very important role in cultural communication between British and other west countries.Besides,cultural translation has left a large amount of classical literary translation works for today's western academic and cultural circles,which is a precious cultural treasure.Therefore,the author has chosen part of The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English to carry out translation practice and research.The report is a review on the translation of The Fifth Section of Chapter Five(Greek and Latin Prose)and The First Section(German)and the Second Section(French)of Chapter Six in The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English(Volume 4),delivering detailed analysis and summary through the whole translation process.This translation report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is about task description,mainly introducing the background,significance and basic framework of the translation task;Chapter Two describes the preparation before translation,including the analysis on the features of source text,search of parallel texts and teamwork.Chapter Three generalizes the theoretical basis of the translation practice,including the introduction and analysis of semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory and their applications in the practice.The fourth chapter is the main part of the report: case analysis;in this chapter,the author illustrates some translation points and difficulties under the guidance of semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory.Chapter Five conducts conclusion,which summarizes the author's translation experience and limitation in the translation process.The hope of this report is to provide a reference for those who have interests in the study of history of literary translation in English,so as to make a constant progress in this translation practice.
