Economic globalization has promoted the arrival of the era of cultural pluralism, and it has become a common phenomenon that different cultures and languages coexist. With a long history of cultural exchanges, and influenced by the international cooperative strategy of “the Belt and Road”,the Sino-Russian cultural exchanges will be greatly strengthened, hence it has become a necessity to learn and understand Russian cultures. The source text is excerpted from The Dream Life of Sukhanov,a novel by Olga Grushin,a Russian-American writer. The novel depicts an art editor in Moscow in the 1980 s who suffered from his middle-aged crisis. It is an excellent novel with unique Russian cultural background, and exotic Russian traditions and customs, and complex human psychology and feelings. However up to now there is no Chinese version of the novel in China.Based on the theories of semantic translation and communicative translation, and by close reading, this paper focuses on the translation of words and sentences in the source text. The difficulty in translation lies in the understanding of the original words and sentences, especially that is relevant to the Russian cultural background. The purpose of this translation is to help readers better understand the novel by comparing the differences between Chinese and Russian cultures. At the same time,it enables the translator to gain more practical translation experience and improve her translation level.
