A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Chinese Strategy And Military Modernization: A Comparative Analysis(Excerpt)

This is a report based on E-C translation cooperation between Guilin Research Center for Government Digit Dissemination and Culture as a Soft Power and Guangxi Normal University.The author is in charge of translation.The report discusses the Chinese translation practices for the first four chapters in Chinese Strategy and Military Modernization: A Comparative Analysis.Currently,no Chinese translation of the four excerpted chapters can be found.The excerpt mainly introduces the evolving strategies in the China-U.S.military balance,the U.S.Shift to“rebalancing”to Asia,China's strategy and military doctrine and so on,which is of high translation value.This report is written under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation.The communicative translation requires to center on the target text readers and give full play to the advantages of the target language and pay attention to the effect of communication.The report starts from the theory and analyzes the key points and difficulties during the translation process,and studies the translation methods of some words and sentences,striving to produce the same effect on the target text readers as close as possible to that achieved on the readers of the source language.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the content,significance,requirements of the project and the framework of the report.The second chapter is preparations for the project,which mainly includes the introduction of the original text and the author,the analysis of parallel texts,difficulties in translation,and quality control.The third chapter introduces Newmark and the communicative translation theory.The fourth chapter is the core of this report.Under the guidance of the theory of communicative translation,the author analyzes the translation process and specific cases at the lexical,syntactic and textual level with the analysis closely related to theory.In the fifth chapter,the author summarizes the problems encountered in the translation project and the corresponding solutions,and my limitations.It has proved that Newmark's communicative translation can provide some theoretical guidance for the translation of the source text.By translating this material,the translator expects that the text will serve as references for relevant research while allow the world to recognize a real China.
