During avant-grade period,Ge Fei's works were mostly time-themed,and its structural innovation also focused on the transform of time form.In his novels,time is extremely open.Superficially,it seems cover all such as events,behaviors and consciousness.Deeply,it is multi-layered for time physically shapes past,present,and future as well as philosophically makes the beings be the beings.In some cases,time presents individual psychological and emotional experience,such as perceptions,memories,and imaginations.Time passes when the world works.As a result,what time exactly implies is complex and diverse.It is definitely difficult to analyze the time in Ge Fei's novels.Researchers have attached great importance on time itself or the innovation of the narration time from the the perspective of the narratology to avoid the construction of the time.Therefore,there is a dilemma if the time at the narratological perspective and the time as the subject are separately studied,one is the study will go against avant-grade into a metaphysically empty concept,another is it will overstruggle on the form of the time so as to the complete time system that from form to theme will be ignored.Based on the ways Ge Fei innovates form with time,the author of this thesis is to explore how Ge Fei builds a completely new-brand time system and how such time relates to life and individual.The avant-grade of Ge Fei is that he has a strong awareness of time which can be known from his personal statement that time is the thorough theme of his works at the very beginning of his writing.But time-themed writing is not just permeating time into a story.How to transform time is a systematic project in Ge Fei's novels,which lies in that Ge Fei deconstruct the traditional structures and forms as well as the narrative methods of novels.First,reassess the function and the necessity of a story.On Ge Fei's point of view,it is not a must for all the narrations to produce a complete story,and he is even skeptical the necessity of the existence of stories.As a result,most of the Ge Fei's novels during avant-grade period witness story collapse or even story cancellation,bringing the possibility for time restructure.Second,the rhythm of narration relates to that of time.After disintegrating the story,Ge Fei insists on the co-temporal description of scenes and details,and then dismantles the story into countless fragments and details,which are organized creatively to make a spatial time structure.After classifying and analyzing narration structure,the author recognizes that Ge Fei's stories follow the principle of “time is structure”,which paves a new way for me to study the time in his works.On one hand,Ge Fei restructures the form of novel by time,making time the dominant element of the text structure.On the other hand,this time-oriented text restructure time itself reversely,bringing a new form for the time in the novels.The time here,not on narratological sense,has been merged the time explored by Ge Fei.After analyzing the time in Ge Fei's novel,namely,textual structure,the author classifies it into four categories.First,the linear structure of time.It is is only a small part in the novels,but involved in the Ge Fei's thinking on time;Second,the reorganized jigsaw-style time after the break of the complete time of the story.Third,parallel or intersecting time,a brand-new concept of time after the separate of threedimensional space and time.Fourth,the chaotic time.The time system constructed in the text structure ultimately lays the foundation for the time regarding life existence,which is a consistent exploration of Ge Fei,namely,how the time influences individual existence and how life lives in the endless time.Ge Fei intends to explain an existentialist human survival proposition in the complex time,that is,how the past time makes people slaves,and how the present time confines destiny.In the powerful and intertwined time network,Ge Fei,by deep thinking,discovers the spiritual dilemma in another dimension of the world and tries to position individuals so as to leave an existential myth that how individuals confront with time.
