The Three-Body trilogy is honored as the most recognized work of Chinese science fiction, constructing astounding universe view and the unremitting struggle to save the human civilization with a great boldness of vision, which has rich ideological connotation and practical significance.Taking the trilogy as research object and taking heroic figures or non-hero figures, like Zhang Beihai,Luo Ji,Cheng Xin and Wade as the breakthrough point, this article analyzes Liu Cixin's heroic narration in the narrative context of Chinese modern and contemporary heroes and then discusses the contribution of Liu-style heroic images to contemporary literature. This paper firstly combs the evolution of the heroic narration from the late Qing Dynasty to the present, and then analyzes the heroes of the Three-Body trilogy and their dilemmas through reading the novels carefully,in order to reveal the inheritance and development of the Three-Body series to Chinese modern and contemporary heroic narration.Obviously,Zhang Beihai and Luo Ji have respectively inherited the heroic narrative mode of “the Seventeen-Year” and the New Period.Cheng Xin also has the courage and responsibility of traditional female heroes.Nevertheless, the Dark Forest Law has made the universe become an arena of all civilizations, which results in the loss of traditional morality's rationality.Accordingly the heroic images have changed: Zhang Beihai who is a revolutionary hero in the Space Age has suppressed the moral self-consciousness with rational spirit and the sense of responsibility many times,so as to preserve the fire of earth civilization;Luo Ji has grew into a guardian of human civilization from a playboy, repeatedly guiding human civilization to avoid disaster with a cold, mechanical swordsman attitude. However, when facing the existential crisis Cheng Xin has the responsibility and courage of traditional female heroes, but she has not the talent of serving as strongmen in doomsday. On the contrary,Wade just has the courage of a new hero, but he can't keep balance between reason and humanity. The technocrat Liu Cixin has carried forward survival theory and revalued the traditional morality through the Three-Body trilogy. And on this basis,by means of the cold and dark hero images and the opposite dialectic, this work has considered many values dominating and constraining the mind throughout modern society, which had written a heavy stroke in the history of Chinese contemporary literature and ideology. In the more extensive hero sequence, the lofty and rational hero images in the Three-Body trilogy called “neo-classical heroes” which shows a long history of classical heroes and obtains a new connotation through confronting “the dark forest struggle”.The paper believes that the original viewpoint has only the concept of “Neo-classical science fiction” with stylistic and aesthetic dimensions. After enriching the ideological level and gaining the depth of history and thought,it is an appropriate nominatum to highlight the value and significance of Liu Cixin's science fiction.
