Times bring up the talents,and the talents create the era.In the twenty-first Century,human has entered the era of knowledge economy,and the core of knowledge economy is creation.The ministry of education issued The New Curriculum of English which require that the training aim of new curriculum should reflect the requirements of the times.“Education should enable students to have the spirit of creation and practical ability”.How to cultivate creative thinking talents,and how to cultivate the students' creative thinking in English teaching is the major concern of educators and also the purpose of this study.This study aims to explore two questions: 1.How to cultivate students' creative thinking in junior high school English teaching? 2.Are the methods used in the experiment effective or not? In order to solve the problems,first the author researches into the literature,then formulates the idea of developing creative thinking,at last designs the relevant class activities.The experiment follows three steps.The first step is selecting the test sample—class one is experimental class and class two is the control class.The pretest is conducted to check the level of creative thinking of the two sample classes.During the first step,make sure that there is no significant difference between the experimental class and control class.The second step is the experiment of about one semester,when the activities cultivating students' creative thinking are used in the experimental class.Meanwhile,the traditional way of teaching is used in the control class.The third step is to check the validity of the experiment.The post-test is conducted in both experimented of class and control class.The data is collected and analyzed by SPSS19.0.The result shows that there is a significant difference between the experimentalclass and control class.Creative thinking ability of the experimental class has been improved noticeably.Based on the data,the training methods are proved effective.Specifically brainstorming in English class can train students' divergence ability and imagination ability.Mind map can train students' memory ability,logic ability and divergence ability.Analogical reasoning can train students' logic ability and divergence ability.Open questions can cultivate students' imagination ability and intuition ability.These activities effectively cultivate students' abilities which are included in creative thinking.The feasibility and effectiveness of these methods provide some reference and enlightenment for the reform of junior high school English teaching.Nevertheless,owing to the limitations of the objective conditions,this study has certain limitations,such as the lack of samples for the experiment,the lack of length of the experiment period,and the inadequacy of training methods.
