A Report On The Translation Of PENA-RODRIGUEZ V.COLORADO

This report is based on the translation of ST which is a judgment made by the Supreme Court of the United States on a criminal case occurring in 2016.The author of this report(the “author” hereinafter)introduces the background and legal significance of the translation work and presents the language features of the ST through analysis.In this report,the author puts major effort on the discussion of the ST's features before he attempts to provide his suggestions on other translators who are interested in this kind of legal texts.Therefore,the main function of the report is to share the author personal experience about the translation of the US Supreme Court judgment,rather than argue on any translation theory.But it doesn't means the report is severed from translation theories.On the contrary,Professor Susan ?ar?evi?'s classification of legal text types and Professor Li Kexing's basic principles of legal translation guide the author to select specific translation strategies to finish his work.The report consists of four chapters.Chapter One,Task Description,sketches the background of the judgment and the significance of this translation task in the fields of legal language research and common law research.Chapter Two,Process Description,sets forth the processes that the translator writes this report.In Chapter Three,Case Study,the author demonstrates the difficulties that he noticed during the translation process and his solutions and reflections on this regard.The last chapter is Conclusion,in which the implication and limitation of this report are summarized.It is hoped that the translation and the report could be a reference for other legal translators or legal professionals.
