With the increasing trend of globalization,transnational business negotiations have become more frequent around the globe.Differences in language and cultural backgrounds,however,have brought difficulties to business negotiators from different countries.With the assistance of interpreters,business negotiators are able to interact with each other,making transnational business negotiation possible.Business discourses with specific communication purposes contain a number of interpersonal information indicating the attitudes or stances of the speakers,which poses some challenges to interpreters.Thus,how to exert interpreter’s subjectivity to identify the interpersonal information and then accurately reproduce it in the target language is the focus of this report.Based on the author’s interpreting task,the report first describes the purpose of this interpreting task,the process of pre-task preparations and the interpreting process.A case study then,was conducted on the subjectivity of interpreter from the perspective of Appraisal Theory based on the difficulties and problems encountered in the interpreting task.By using the three parameters,namely Affect,Judgement and Appreciation in the attitude system of Appraisal Theory,the author explores how an interpreter can identify and accurately understand the interpersonal information and then reproduce it by adopting some interpreting strategies.In this report,the author attempts to find the solution to the difficulties encountered in the interpreting and hopes that the case analysis can provide some inspirations for interpreters who might face similar challenge. |
