Folk Stand

This dissertation starts with the origin of nonprofit art organizations and briefly illustrates the current situation of them both home and abroad by some of the crucial nodal points.As a vital social force,nonprofit organizations came into being as early as in the seventeenth century and gained wider attention during the last half of the twentieth century all around the globe.Especially from the 1980 s,such similar organizations have gradually appeared in China.In 2008,art works trading market bubbles shattered in the global context as an aftermath of the financial crisis.Therefore,the year 2009 witnessed the starting point of creative industries in China and nonprofit art organizations started to develop as well.Huangjueping,Chongqing,which is exactly situated in where an industrious site and a rural-urban fringe area meet,acquires a unique geographical feature and develops an art gathering zone with the axis of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.It used to be a prosperous site for arts.However,signs of recession appeared in recent years in this art gathering zone of Chongqing.It is a problem that needs to be dealt with for people who create arts and dedicate to art here: how to rejuvenate the arts in this area? With the methods of literature review and field interview study and based on field data,the dissertation takes samples from three representative nonprofit art organizations in Chongqing: Organhaus Art Space,501-Xu Space and Dimensions Art Center.It respectively introduces them from four aspects: legal certification,main contents,organizational structure and operation mode and analyzes the similarities and differences among them.With persistent efforts of the three nonprofit art organizations for the past years,they have provided an international platform,onsite art creation methods and virtual spots for arts to develop well in Chongqing.Folk stand,as a third party force differing from the government and commerce,is the voice and actions initiated actively and spontaneously from folks.Nonprofit art organizations provide reflecting,showing and exchanging space for artcreators in contemporary experimental arts and localization arts.Reflecting on the current situation of nonprofit art organizations in Huangjueping,Chongqing,though problems such as weak awareness of legislation,lack of capital,difficulty in tripartite cooperation and demerit of their own organizational and developmental ability still exist,existence itself is just a beginning.It is of vital importance to foster favorable factors and circumvent unfavorable ones of these organizations.Through looking squarely at,organizing and analyzing the current situation of nonprofit art organizations in Huangjueping,Chongqing,it is the sincere hope of the author to provide part of the information to people who work in such organizations as well as point out the problems they face and possible solutions to them.It is also expected that more and more people could notice or pay attention to or even take part in developing nonprofit art organizations and thus gradually form a complete and sound environment for such organizations.
