The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary(the seventh edition),CCD for short,incorporates a type of words which has no notes of part-of-speech(POS).In the guide of the dictionary,it is mentioned in notes of POS that notes are not accessible in multi-word entries,idioms,and other idiomatic phrases,but are included in other word classes.As crucial components of daily language,idiomatic phrases are extremely valuable and significant both in theory and practice.Due to its flexibility,this thesis mainly focuses on the frequency of use,investigation of parenthesis,and the embodiment of figurative meaning.The thesis is divided into four chapter.Chapter one,preface,introduces the research subject and purpose,provides an overview about the current research on idiomatic phrases,CCD idioms,and the use of idiomatic phrases,and explains the research method,perspective and source of corpus.Chapter two statistically analyzes the frequency of the use of idiomatic phrases.The thesis divided into three parts: the general description of the CCD idioms,the frequent use of the CCD idioms and the comparison of the frequency comparison of the use of the language.Chapter three provides a investigate of expand in idiomatic phrases.First and foremost,we examine the flexibility of the extension.Then,the investigation of extended position can be carried out.It is divided into three categories: the extended position in the front,the extended position in the post and the extended position in the middle.Finally,the description is based on whether the structure is a temporary assembly or a regular collocation.Chapter four describes and analyzes the figurative meaning of selected idioms.Firstly,there are two parts of the representation of the figurative meaning in the composition of the idiom,that is,the figurative meaning is embodied in the whole and the figurative meaning on a certain component.Then,analyze elements which exert influence on the generation of figurative meaning.Lastly,these idioms are statistically described and analyzed in the subordinated field of figurative meaning.In this thesis,the application of idioms is investigated from different angles.Through the analysis of the frequency of usage,extensibility and metaphor,it is concluded that the frequency of usage is influenced by the number of expansion types and the number of extended components.Idioms are divided into five levels in the flexibility of expansion;there are many forms in the extended position;there are temporary combinations and fixed collocations in the results of expansion.The subordinated field in Chinese idioms is extensive,and its generation is not only influenced by metonymic mechanism,but also influenced by the meaning of the face,the components of Chinese characters,and the familiarity of people's idioms.
