Research On Metaphors In "Modern Chinese Dictionary" (7th Edition)

This paper makes a comprehensive investigation and statistical analysis of 451 figurative words in Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition).Firstly,the article explains the connotation and nature of figurative words,and use comparative analysis method to distinguish the connection and difference between figurative words and the word of figurative sense.Then we divide figurative words into three categories: pre-metaphorical,post-metaphorical and omni-metaphorical.We also summarize the characteristics of figurative words from the perspective of pragmatics,and analyze the role of figurative words.Finally,according to the linguistic facts and the actual situation of the use of figurative words,this paper discusses how to deal with the problems related to figurative words more systematically and scientifically in Modern Chinese Dictionary.In the Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition),there are four different ways to interpret figurative words.However,there may be some problems in the interpretation of figurative words that deserve our consideration and discussion.Its systematicness and normativeness may need to be further strengthened.The study of figurative words will not only promote the study of modern Chinese ontology,but also help language teaching and language acquisition.
