As China plays a more and more significant role in global arena, foreign exchanges in aspects of politics, economy and culture also grow radically. As a result, these frequent exchanges facilitate the requirements for qualified interpreters and the development of interpreting industry, which has shown its large market potential. However, this hot weave also makes new problems surfacing from the deep water, which is the scarcity of high-end professional interpreters.Beyond this, the interpreters' actual level of interpreting is various from individual to individual.Without solving these existing problems, the interpreting industry will not have considerable development.Against this backdrop, training for the future professional interpreters conforms to this tendency. As a transitional role between a non-professional interpreter and a professional interpreter, student interpreters have stepped into the interpreting industry, however, they still haven't met the standard of professional interpreters. Therefore, the research on the training status of student interpreters has great significance.By understanding their characteristics in the process of interpreting, remedies for specific cases can be found so as to build a more comprehensive interpreting training mechanism covering all-round cases and providing tailored guidelines. In the process of consecutive interpreting, interpreters are usually assisted with the interpreting notes to take down key information and restructure the logic of source language. It is suggested that, the interpreting notes play an irreplaceable role in the whole interpreting process. As for the characteristics of interpreting notes, different interpreters may have different inclinations, and there are no detailed measuring standards. Therefore, this survey is designed to analyze the characteristics of interpreting notes focusing on student interpreters in C-E and E-C interpreting in aspects of quantity, forms and language of notes. Also, student interpreters' personal thoughts on interpreting notes would also be discussed by means of individual interviewing. The survey found that,on quantity of notes, student interpreters took more notes inE-C interpreting than in C-E interpreting;on forms of notes, student interpreters used more symbols than characters in both C-E and E-C consecutive interpreting;on language of notes, student interpreters were more likely to take down their first language as interpreting notes,no matter it was the source language or target language. The survey also analyzed the relationship between characteristics of notes and interpreting scores, which turned out that, student with better performance and higher scores in consecutive interpreting took fewer notes, used less quantity of complete source language, while they had nearly no differences in the forms of interpreting notes comparing to the student interpreters with poor interpreting performance.
