In this thesis,the author explores student interpreters’ disfluency when doing Chinese-English consecutive interpreting.The text of this study is excerpted from President Xi Jinping’s speech at the first session of the 16 th G20 Summit.President Xi expounded China’s position from multiple aspects.Therefore,the interpretation of this text is conducive to better spreading Chinese philosophies and helping China build an image of a responsible major country in the international community.Fluency is one of the most important criteria for evaluating language quality and interpreters’ performance.Dis-fluency has become a hot topic in the field of linguistics and interpretation.Too many non-fluent expressions in the output process of interpretation will affect the transmission of information and even lead to the audience’s distrust of the interpreter.Therefore,the causes and coping strategies of disfluency are very important in interpreting research.Many scholars have conducted researches on disfluency in E-C interpretation,most of which are based on empirical reports.However,there are few empirical researches on C-E interpretation.This study,based on a case study of five second-year MTI students from Tianjin Normal University,aims to explore the main types and possible causes of disfluency of Chinese student interpreters in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting,and proposes several coping strategies based on the interpreting practice and references.The study found that student translators tend to pause and correct both in the process of interpreting,especially unfilled pause and repeat,and after interviews,the researcher found this phenomenon is mostly caused by inefficient note-taking,inaccurate translation of numbers and proper nouns and memory capacity.This study aims at exploring consecutive C-E interpreter for MTI students to identify their problems.It is expected to invite a more comprehensive further study in this field. |
