Satoshi Kon,as an outstanding Japanese surrealistic animation director,is the leader of using ambition to convey the inner complex emotions and the spiritual world, and he is also the one who brought out the cinematic animation to extremes. His changeful and exquisite lens language made him known as “the impish man good at playing space-time image”,and at one point he even became the template learned and followed by famous live-action movie directors such as Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky.Throughout his life he only created four animated films and a television animation, and in all of these works he put as much efforts as he could.Every single work of him is bearing the philosophical thought of the human world with a high-level production, attracting a lot of attention internationally. The creative idea and surrealistic conscious expression of his cinematic animations have enabled his animation work to have an advanced perspective and an abundancy in emotional representation, which is an example worth learning by the animation makers of our country.Choosing Satoshi Kon as a research subject allows domestic animation to think outside the box and to develop a wider audience orientation and marketing. This paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, and it mainly describes the domestic and foreign current research status about Satoshi Kon,along with the research meaning, purpose, contents and methods of this paper. The second chapter discusses the life of Satoshi Kon and the formation of his artistic style from two aspects. On one hand,it discusses the subjective reasons for the formation of Satoshi Kon's artistic style from his upbringing and creative experiences. On the other hand,it is explained from the macroscopic perspective of Japanese natural aesthetics, crisis awareness, shame culture, and contradictory personality. The third chapter respectively studies the narrative style of Satoshi Kon's surrealism from the viewpoint of the narration of stream of consciousness, the narrative structure of play-within-a-play,and the psychoanalysis theory of Freud. The fourth chapter studies Satoshi Kon's cinematic creative concept. It analyzes the “Drawn films” from his unskilled transfer, montage language, and musical concept of integration of sound and picture. The fifth chapter draws on the ultra-realistic narrative concept and animated cinematic creation idea, explaning how the author creates an animated short film “See You Again",which tries to express the protagonist's delusional world for escaping the reality.
