With the vigorous development of international Chinese education in recent years,more and more attention has been paid to the study on the textbooks adopted for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.As an integral part of textbooks,exercises have increasingly drawn the focus from the subject experts and the teachers from the classrooms.As the most important materials for students’ preparation made before classes,review after classes,teachers’ preparation before class,in-class training and test after class,exercises need to be inspected in practice in terms of the design and plan at the beginning,and the effectiveness in use.Based on teaching practice conducted by the author on his own,this paper takes New Practical Chinese Textbook1(3rd edition),Boya Chinese ·Elementary Starting Chapter 1(2nd edition)and two sets of exercise books matching with textbooks as examples,starting from the quantity of exercises,types of questions and the design and preparation for contents,conducting the interviews with teachers and students who often have the teaching activities in the classroom on the basis of the specific use of types of questions,in order to make the evaluation on the preparation and design of two sets of matching with textbooks and put forward some suggestions for the preparation of exercises contained in the textbooks in the future.Introduction,acting as the first chapter of this paper,is divided into four parts,it mainly introduces the causes and significance of the selection of this topic,the current status and the trend of the study,the object and method of the study.The second chapter of this paper carries out the introduction of the theories which this paper has adopted by way of references in the study,which mainly include the theoretical basis of exercises,the purpose of the design for exercises,the method of exercises and the evaluation theory of exercises,and conducts the arrangement and regulation for the various theories and definitions.In Chapter 3,this paper mainly contains an study on the preparation and design of the exercises matching with two sets of textbooks and their matching workbooks.Firstly,it formulates the standards for statistics and classification in this paper.Then,it conducts the data statistics for the languageknowledge,the type and the quantity of the exercises matching with the two sets of textbooks in a respectively manner,and conducts the analysis on the characteristics owned by them.In addition,the fourth part of this chapter takes the conjunction into sentences contained in "Boya Chinese·Elementary Starting Chapter 1" as an example to have the study on the effectiveness of exercises.It can be found through the qualitative study on the exercises that the those belong to the conjunction into sentences in the textbook titled "Boya Chinese ·Elementary Starting Chapter 1" have high effectiveness in respects of topic,quantity of problems and so on.Chapter 4records some interviews conducted with the teachers and learners in classrooms respectively,and draws the conclusion for advantages and disadvantages in the design and preparation of exercises in textbooks for the users.Chapter 5 puts forward some suggestions for the preparation and design of exercises in textbooks in the future based on the feedbacks from teachers and learners and the results of the effectiveness of exercises in the teaching practices.The sixth part belongs to the part with the conclusion of this paper,which conducts the summary in this paper on the study results of this paper and points out the defects existing in the process of the implementation of the study.It can be generally understood the current status in the design and preparation of the commonly used textbooks through this study.Firstly,in terms of the quantity of the exercises,both sets of textbooks have reflected the principle of "refined teaching and practicing more",which can meet the needs of teachers and students in respect of quantity,but there are the situations that it is too many and the distribution is uneven as well;secondly,the types of exercises are relatively rich only in terms of the requirements for problems,though most of them are derived from one type of exercise,to some extent,the real meaning of the question has not yet been done.In the design and preparation of exercises in the future,the producer shall focus on the development of new types of exercises and the improvement of the interest of the exercises;thirdly,in respect of the effectiveness of exercises,it is necessary to further enhance those contained in textbooks as well.Problems like these kinds shall be paid attention to in the preparation and design of textbooks in the future.
