English has become a very important subject in China's education.And,middle school is the period for students to have a deep contact with English.In this period of time,students' academic record of English learning is directly affected by their English reading ability.At present,in middle school English teaching in our country,the polarization phenomenon of English reading level between urban and rural students' is particularly evident.The urban middle schools have a superior advantage in all aspects of teaching resources,including senior teachers,complete additional equipment for teaching and a variety of teaching materials and institutions,allowing urban students to get in touch with and learn English earlier and better.Because of the relatively backward conditions in rural areas,there is a lack of English teaching resources.English learning has even become a subsidiary course.To sum up these reasons,middle school students in rural areas should get more help to master English reading strategies,cultivate their awareness of learning strategies,and form internalized strategic capabilities.Based on this,questionnaire method is adopted in the article as research method to study English reading strategies of rural middle schools on the basis of theoretical research combined with teaching practice.This study is based on schema reading theory and metacognition theory,and in accordance with the current situation of students' English reading in rural middle school,the author selects the students of Huanan county No.3 middle school in Jiamusi city,Heilongjiang province,which is also where the author works for,as the research object.A questionnaire survey was conducted.With the survey result,we analyze the current situation and existing problems of rural middle school students' English reading,and on this basis,we put forward strategies to promote rural middle school students' English reading ability.This article consists of six chapters: Chapter One: Introduction.This chapter mainly elaborates on the background,meaning and other aspects.It also explains the current research status,the research methods used in this paper,and the innovations and deficiencies.Chapter Two: An overview of relevant theories.In this chapter,we reviewed the theoretical research through literature review,and summarized the current theoretical research.Chapter Three: Investigation and analysis of rural middle school students' English reading ability.Taking the third middle school of Huanan County as a research case,through the comparison of English reading ability tests with the same-grade students of the Jiamusi Fifth Middle School in Heilongjiang Province,to obtain the current level of English reading in rural middle schools.Based on the test results,a questionnaire survey was conducted in the Third Middle School in Huanan County to get a knowledge of the current deficiencies in the cultivation of English reading ability of middle school students in rural areas;Chapter Four: The construction of a strategy system for the cultivation of English reading ability of rural middle school students.Based on the results of the investigation and analysis in Chapter Three,a strategy system for the cultivation of English reading ability in rural middle school students was established,including the principles of cultivation and methods of training,etc.Chapter Five: An empirical analysis of the effectiveness of rural middle school students' English reading ability training strategies.Through the method of post-test,the effectiveness of the strategy system constructed in Chapter Four is verified.The students being tested are those who went through pretest,and the students from those two schools are put together again to take examinations in which the difficulty level is the same.Through the test results,the effectiveness of training strategies will be verified.Chapter Six: Conclusions and deficiencies.At last,this article proposes a targeted and effective training strategy,which has a certain practical significance for rural middle school students to improve their level of English reading.
