Chinese Literature(English Version)as the only official periodical in Chinese mainland that translates and introduces Chinese literature out during the Seventeen Years, has built Chinese image that meets the government's expectation through translating excellent Chinese literary works under the guidance and requirements of the government.Being part of Chinese image, the importance of ethnic minorities' image goes without saying. However, there are few researches focusing on the building of ethnic minorities' image in translation works during a certain period of time. And there is no answer to the changes of ethnic minorities' image in Chinese Literature(English Version),either. This thesis takes the Mongolian literary works from Chinese Literature(English Version)from 1951 to 1966 as the objects, and tries to study the building and variation of Mongolian image from the perspective of Imagology. There are mainly three questions to be solved: 1)What kind of ethnic image did the Mongolian authors build in their works in Chinese Literature(1951-1966)? 2)During the process of translation, what kind of changes does the image have? 3)Why is there such kind of reproduction? The research on the variations of the image and the causes can enrich Imagology theory itself, expand the breadth and depth of the studies on Chinese Literature(English Version)and provide some references for external publicity policy of China today. On the other hand,it can show some features of related translation history in Seventeen Years. This thesis adopts Imagology theory in Comparative Literature as the basic theoretical framework, using corpus study and case study to analyze and compare Mongolian image in the source and target texts at the intrinsic level. The research points out that in the original texts, the Mongolian image has two features: the inherit one can be concluded as enthusiastic, friendly, industrious and brave;while the epochal feature is pursuing advancement, serving for the socialist cause. From the analysis at lexical level, the hierarchic relation level and the plot level,it concludes that through translation methods like transliteration, deletion and so on the translators mainly make three changes of Mongolian image: weakening of national nature, changing of people's conflicts and strengthening on positive side. And then based on the analysis of related historical materials, this thesis analyzes that the main causes for the variation may be the influence of the ethnic policy at the beginning of the founding of People's Republic of China, the need of the external publicity policy taken by the government and the consideration of the target readers' expectations of Chinese Literature(English Version).
