Nowadays, coordinated development of urban and rural education has gained attention from both government and academia.President Xi Jinping delivers a report to the 19 th CPC National Congress and points out that we will promote the coordinated development of compulsory education in urban and rural areas, while giving particular attention to rural areas, which emphasizes the significance of rural education. For seven-grade students, their English learning efficiency and quality has been greatly influenced by their English learning adaptability. In this research, the author conducts a comparative study between an urban middle school(Yuci No.1Middle School)and a rural middle school(Zhangqin Village Middle School)in Jinzhong City, selecting the seven-grade students in both schools as research subjects and using questionnaire and interview as research instruments.Firstly, the author adopts and compiles the Questionnaire of Seven-grade English Learning Adaptability(see Appendix I)on the basis of Learning Adaptability Test(Middle School Students Version)compiled by Professor Zhou Bucheng in East China Normal University. Then the author hands out a total of 625 questionnaires and randomly interviews 20 students and 3 English teachers from each school. Finally, after collecting data and making independent-sample T test, the author comes to the following conclusions: first, there is a significant difference of English learning adaptability between urban and rural seven-grade students, and the urban students have a better English learning adaptability than rural students;second,in terms of specific dimensions, except for school learning environment, the differences in English learning attitude, learning techniques, learning environment and personal quality are also significant, and the urban students in these specific dimensions ofEnglish learning adaptability are superior to the rural students;third, there are three main causes of differences: different parenting styles, different teaching methods and students' different English foundation and learning habits.Lastly, the author makes suggestions for rural seven-grade teachers and parents according to differences and causes,so that the rural students can quickly adapt to English learning in junior middle school and the rural English can improve their teaching methods.
