Globalization brings various unprecedented opportunities and challenges to all professions and trades. With the increasing trade exchange at home and aboard, the translation of user manual is becoming more and more important.Electronic product instructions are designed to introduce product information and provide operation methods, thus offering assistance for the users.Based on Chinese-English translation practice of?COLTEX G20????????(translated into User Manual for G20)and?XENONS M2000????????(translated into User Manual for M2000),this report discusses register features of printer instructions from the perspective of Register Theory, thus offering guidance and reference to Chinese-English translation of printer instructions. This report analyzes the register features of the text from three aspects: field, tenor and mode.In order to achieve register equivalence, problems during translation are illustrated and corresponding translation strategies are identified, hence the meaning can be conveyed more precisely on the lexical, syntactic and textual level.Guided by Register Theory, the author puts emphasis on relations between language and context in translation practice, which also helps the author master linguistic features of the source text and reproduce the meaning of source text successfully, thus realizing register equivalence and achieving unity of the source text and the target text both on linguistic level and macro structure.
