| In the archaeological finds throughout the history, combs are not uncommon. However, for these archaeological discoveries, people often rest on the modern knowledge level of combs. The culture related to combs is not only short of understanding, but also lack interest and motivation to explore.Relevant research works and papers have only gradually emerged in recent years.Although combs in Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties are not as elegant and luxurious as that in Tang Dynasty, they still remain the exclusive characteristics of the times. The key of this paper is to design and solve problems from the existing archaeology excavations of combs. The main contents of this paper can be divided into two parts:Firstly, use archaeological methods to sort out combs appearing in the excavation reports, and summarize the changes in the distribution of combs throughout the various periods from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties. The representative combs of each era are selected for analysis, and the material and shape of combs are studied by typology. The final point of the thesis is to learn from the archaeological materials and to understand the cultural aesthetics and customs of the time through microscopic things. This paper is divided into six chapters.Chapter One:Introduction. This chapter reviews the development history and research status of combs, and clarifies the research significance and research methods of selecting combs from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties as study subject.Point out the innovations and shortcomings of this article, and the direction in which we can continue to study in the future.Chapter Two:Concept and Historical Source of combs. This chapter mainly conducts analysis from two aspects. The first aspect is to sort out the characters related to "comb" appearing in the ancient history books and excavated documents, which enables us to have a clear understanding of the complex and diverse comb titles, especially the connections and differences among three main different titles. The second aspect is to give a brief introduction to the excavated situation throughout the history and understand the origin of combs. The combs in the prehistoric period are not widely used and are not worn by everyone, which may represent a symbol of identity in this period.Chapter Three:The Archaeological Discovery and Distribution of Combs from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties. In this chapter, the archaeological findings of combs in each period are briefly summarized mainly from the materials collected from the archaeological reports, which in order to provide a preliminary understanding of the space distribution of combs, and briefly analyze the change process of the distribution range.According to the different scale and speed of development of combs, the author divides it into three stages:Xia,Shang and Xizhou Periods as the initial formation period;Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period as the rapid development period;and Qin and Han Periods as the gradually maturing period. The combs of these three stages are constantly expanding in number as well as the spatial distribution range, which are from the concentration of a certain area to the widespread distribution of the whole country.Chapter Four:Classification Study of Combs from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties.Firstly, according to different materials, the combs are divided into bone horns, bronzes, jade and wood bamboos. The dominated materials and popularity of combs from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties will be clarified.Secondly, the shapes of combs are divided by typological method, and the respective popular eras and distribution areas of different shapes of combs are determined.Through meticulous classification research in two aspects,we finally grasp the evolution of the shape and material of the combs from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties from a macro perspective.Chapter Five:The Cultural Study of Combs in the Ancient Society. On the basis of archaeological materials, the ancient social life and culture reflected by combs will be studied at a deeper level. This chapter mainly discusses four aspects:the relationship between combs and the social level of the tomb owner;the different applications of combs in different genders;the changes in the decorations of combs from Shang and Zhou Dynasties to Qin and Han Dynasties,as well as the changes in the people’s aesthetics;the practical situation and use of combs in the ancient society.Seeing people through objects, the comb is not only a tool for grooming, but also a symbol of civilization.Chapter Six:Conclusion.Summarize the viewpoints of this paper. |
