| There are four integrated English skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading.English writing is an import and essential part.Considering current English teaching situation in senior high school, most teachers pay more attention to language input instead of English output and spend more time on the learning of vocabulary, grammar and the translation of the text instead of writing. As for English writing,a number of students do not know how to write and what to write,so their writing abilities are unsatisfactory. In order to improve this situation, the author put forward Reading-to-Writing approach to integrate English reading with writing, which aimed to improve students’ writing ability and writing attitudes.According to the current situation of English writing teaching and students’ problems in English writing process, the researcher put forward two research questions:(1)What are the effects of Reading-to-Write approach on student’s writing ability?(2)What are the changes of students’ attitudes towards English writing after the application of Reading-to-Write approach? The researcher carried out an experiment on Reading-to-Write approach in one senior high school in Shenyang. Two classes were selected by the researcher-class three and class four in grade two.Students in two classes did not have obvious difference in writing ability. The teaching content and teaching schedule were consistent, but class four adopted Reading-to-Write approach, while class three used traditional teaching approach. The experiment lasted three months form September to November,2018.What’ more,in order to ensure the reliability and validity, the research made use of questionnaires, tests and interview as instruments in the experiment. The questionnaires and interview were used for students’ attitudes and motivations on English writing. The tests were carried out to test students’ writing ability. There are two major findings after three-month experiment of Reading-to-Write approach:(1)Reading-to-write approach can improve students’ writing ability.(2)Reading-to-Write plays a positive role in changing students’ attitude towards English writing. |
