Teachers in many senior high schools still pay much attention to memorizing words,sentence patterns and writing models in English writing teaching.They often emphasize the imitation of the writing models but seldom cultivate students' thinking in writing,so it is not beneficial to cultivate students' thinking through traditional English writing teaching.English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School in2017 pointed out that English teaching in senior high school should develop students' critical thinking as well as improve students' abilities of analyzing and solving problems.It can be seen that the effective cultivation of senior high school students' critical thinking is the main point in English writing teaching.The study mainly discussed the following two questions:(1)What is the effectiveness of cultivating critical thinking on senior high school students' English writing?(2)What are the changes of students' attitudes towards English writing after the application of critical teaching? The researcher selected two parallel classes of Grade One in Shenyang XX School as the experimental subjects,and conducted a three-month experiment.The students in the two classes had similar writing levels and they were taught by the same teacher.Class 3 was the control class which still used the traditional teaching methods in writing classes,meanwhile,class 4 was the experimental class which applied critical thinking to writing.In the experiment,the researcher mainly used questionnaires,an interview,and tests as research tools for data collection and analysis.Before the experiment,questionnaires were carried outto know students' critical thinking tendency and current English writing.What's more,the questionnaires and the interview were used to investigate the changes of students' attitudes towards English writing after the experiment.At the same time,students' English writing was tested before and after the experiment.By comparing the results of the pre-test and post-test,it aimed to test whether students' writing scores changed.The results indicate that the cultivation of critical thinking in writing teaching improves students' English writing,as well as their writing attitudes and interest change a lot.In brief,it is indeed significant to cultivate students' critical thinking in writing.
