In the background of Chinese culture going out,the translation of Culture-loaded Words has become one of the hotspots in the field of literature translation.However,due to the great differences in the ecological environment,material,religion,society and language between China and the West,the uniqueness and complexity of Culture-loaded Words bring many difficulties and problems to literature translation.This paper takes the Culture-loaded Words in Hu Lan He Zhuan and its English version by Howard Glodblatt in 2002 as the research subjects,and tries to analyze the translation methods of different Culture-loaded Words adopted by Howard Glodblatt.The research questions of this thesis include(1)What are the general features of the usage of Culture-loaded Words in Hu Lan He Zhuan?(2)What translation methods does Howard Goldblatt employ to translate Culture-loaded Words in Hu Lan He Zhuan?The results of this study show that(1)There are 498 Culture-loaded Words in Hu Lan He Zhuan,and their translations have different features.(2)The translator adopts ten translation methods to translate these Culture-loaded Words,such as literal translation,free translation,transliteration,substitution and so on.This study aims to analyze the translation methods of Culture-loaded Words in Hu Lan He Zhuan,and to further explore how the translator facilitates the spread of the source language culture or causes the lack of source language culture.At the same time,the author hopes that more scholars can realize the significance of Culture-loaded Words.Moreover,literature translation can better serve intercultural communication and contribute to Chinese cultural communication.
