This thesis consists of two parts.The first part is the translation practice of chapters 6-7 and 14 of Mitigating Environmental Impact of Petroleum Lubricants.The second part is the report on the translation practice.The source text of the translation project is written by Ignatio Madanhire and Charles Mbohwa and published on Springer Nature.The Chinese version of this book has not been found to be published in China.Chapter 6 of this book mainly introduces the types and related characteristics of environmentally friendly base oils,and the future development direction of environmentally friendly base oils.Chapter 7 first introduces the hazards of lubricating oils to the environment,which is aimed to allow people pay more attention to bio-based materials.Then the author introduces the existing documents and latest data on biodegradable lubricants,and finally analyzes the impact and benefits of biodegradable lubricants.Chapter 14 of the original outlines various ways to deal with waste greases and to reduce their environmental impact.This article is a scientific and technological text in the field of petroleum science and technology,which is objective,accurate,and rigorous.Its language style is typical of the scientific and technical text,which is highly professional in the original language and involves knowledge in the field of petroleum lubricants and physical chemistry.In order to translate the original text better and make the translated text concise,rigorous and accurate,the translator adopts Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory as the theoretical guidance,trying to achieve the faithful delivery of the message of and natural reflection of the source text.This translation report first introduces the background,theoretical guidance and significance of this translation practice.Chapter 2 of this report is an introduction of the source text and its author,the analysis of the language style of the original and the preparations made before the translation.The third chapter mainly discusses the difficulties encountered and the methods and techniques employed in the translation process,including conversion,division and omission and addition.Finally,the translator shares the inspiration and experience gained in course of translation and explains the problems to be solved.
