Since the initial proposal of Belt and Road Initiative,interaction and cooperation between China and countries along the route are deepening increasingly.In recent years,industrial cooperation especially international cooperation on petrochemical industry has become the key task of the Belt and Road Initiative,which is closely related to modernization.A Practice Guide to the Physical Simulation Training of Petroleum and Gas Drilling and Exploitation was compiled based on the petrochemical industrial chain base of Liaoning Shihua University.Translating this book into English can help to improve the efficiency of teaching foreign students,thereby cultivating international talents for the Belt and Road Initiative.The main content of this book is the operation guide for oil and gas drilling and exploitation process,and the main content of this translation task includes well drilling and well controlling.Since there are many terminologies,and precise and concise sentences,the text is classified into scientific text.In this translation practice report,the translation of A Practice Guide to the Physical Simulation Training of Petroleum and Gas Drilling and Exploitation is taken as an example to explore the Chinese-English translation skills of scientific text of petroleum.The author analyzes cases at lexical level and syntax level to explore how to achieve the lexical and syntactic equivalence by means of various translation strategies under the instruction of Functional Equivalence Theory.At the lexical level,the translation of terminologies is emphasized in this report.According to different features of terminologies,literal translation,liberal translation and paraphrase are employed,while for the translation of common words,the conversion of part of speech is adopted.At the syntactic level,non-subject sentences and run-on sentences are analyzed.According to their different purposes and features,non-subject sentences can be rendered into imperative sentences and passive voice sentences or added with a new subject.For the translation of run-on sentences,division and combination are employed according to inherent logic and language features of specific run-on sentence.This translation practice has profound practical significance and application value,which can provide training materials for the international business of oil drilling enterprises and also can provide new thinking and reference for the translation of scientific text related to petroleum.Besides,through the experience of translating this text,the translator has deepened comprehension and ability of scientific translation especially the comprehension of texts related to petroleum and gas drilling and exploitation.
