American drama television series Game of Thrones was an adaptation based on George R.R.Martin's fantasy novel A Song of Ice and Fire.The seven seasons won 47 Emmy Awards in which there are three Outstanding Drama Series.It also got a 9.4 rating of ten on douban.com.Viewers increased from 2,000,000 in the first season to 12,100,000 in the seventh season.There are five parts in this paper.In the introduction part,the author states the background,purpose,value of the study and the method she uses in the study.She also puts forwards her findings from the series.In part two,the author talks about the definition of fantasy as well as its five elements.Then she talks about the connection and the difference of classical narratology and post classical narratology as well as their development.She also talks about television series narratology in China and Chinese scholars' contribution.In part three,the author gives a brief introduction to A Song of Ice and Fire.She discusses its historical background,Martin's working experiences and the contents.In part four,the author focuses on the narrative strategies.She analyses the strategies from five aspects,which are narrative structure,Point Of View perspective,characters,narrative ethics and the creation of suspense.In part five and the conclusion,the author gives a summary to the thesis and points out the limitation of the study.She also puts forward the future study space and what can be learned from the drama television series.The unique narrative strategies contributed to its great achievements.In this paper,the author studies the narrative strategies based on the relevant theories.The author analyzes Martin's unique design in narrative space,perspective,characters,ethics and suspense.The author also analyzes the deficiencies and summarizes what is to be learned such as the setting of suspense chain,synchronized production and broadcasting as well as the propaganda campaign of novels and television series,etc.are worth learning in order to find the helpful methods that can be borrowed in spreading Chinese culture.Finally the author states the limitations of this study and provides thespace of future research.
