Consecutive interpreting is a combination of absorbing, memorizing, recording, decoding and delivery.Interpreters need to distribute their limited capacity in an appropriate manner in order to smoothly proceed the interpreting process. This thesis talks about the appropriate distribution of interpreters' capacity through the study of the mock interview of Peter Thiel with the Economic Club of New York.Based on the causes of errors in the mock interview interpretation, this thesis provides four strategies as to how to overcome such errors. After a brief introduction of the interview, the thesis thoroughly studies the notes and interpretation recording and then categories the errors into three types, describing the contradiction and mutually negative influence between listening and analysis, note taking and memorizing. Then the thesis concludes that in order to avoid such problems and produce better interpretation,an interpreter should adapt a new set of enhancing strategies: first speed up the analyzing process of the original audio, strengthen short-term memory and simplify notes based on the analysis, and then produce interpretation faithfully to the notes, and lastly develop an improvement plan and make sure the skilled are strengthened. |
