English To Chinese Translation Strategies For The First-person Narrative Text-A Report On The Translation Of Prologue And Chapter One Of The Last Ship

The project is a report on an English-to-Chinese translation practice.The source text is selected from a science fiction named The Last Ship written by the famous American science fiction writer William Clark Brinkley.The book uses the method of first person narration of the captain on vessel of Nathan James to describe the adventure stories of152 male sailors and 26 female sailors onboard,who struggle for their lives in order to sustain the human civilization.This report is aimed at providing an excellent science fiction for the readers in China.Meanwhile,another purpose of the report is to offer assistance for the researches on the translation of the first-person narrative text.This report consists of four parts,which are the brief introduction of the translation practice,the analysis of translation process,the case study of this translation practice and the conclusion of gains and lessons in the translation practice.Based on the main feature of the first-person narration in the source text,this report adopts the narrative perspective theory as the guidance,analyzes the narrative voice and the perspective in the source text which respectively refer to the narrator and the percipient,and discusses the attitude,the emotion,and the views which the writer intended to deliver.And then,in accordance with the specific cases,the report employs the translation skills such as addition,transposing,cutting,conversing in the translation process in order to represent the original style of the source text in the appropriate,natural,and equivalent way.
