This is a translation project report on the translation of The First Phone Call from Heaven, written by Mitch Albom,a famous American novelist. This work is Albom's latest work which was published in 2014.The story continues Albom's consistent theme: life, death and the power of faith, making the readers moved and shocked. The story starts in an imaginary town. The residents of this town suddenly receive phone calls from the afterlife. Is it the greatest miracle ever or a massive hoax? Sully Harding, the protagonist of the novel,is determined to find out the truth, and solve the mystery behind the miracle. This report consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction of the translation project, including the source of the project, the introduction of the author and the background. The second part introduces the translation preparation and theory, including the preparation before translation, translation difficulties and the understanding of Newmark's semantic and communicative translation theories. And in this part, the translation difficulties such as numerous conversations, detailed descriptions and whole writing style and their solutions are emphasized. The third part is translation strategies and cases. The strategies used in this thesis are amplification, simplification, negation and adjustment of sentence order. The fourth part is conclusion, which includes a summary of the translation,an analysis of the limitations of the translation practice and the future research direction.
