This thesis is composed of two parts including translation practice and related report. The translation practice belongs to literary translation based on the new published novel The First Phone Call from Heaven written by American novelist Mitch Albom. The translation practice aims to improve the translator’s translate level by doing translation practice with translation skills and translation principle. The translation practice report is the generalization description and analyses summarize of the English-Chinese translation practice. There is no doubt that for students majoring in translation, translation practice is their most necessary practice. Only by doing plenty of translation practice with translation theory and translation skills which are learning from books can translators improve their translating level efficiently and become real applied translation talents.The First Phone Call from Heaven is a fantasy novel written by American novelist Mitch Albom. He can always impress the reader’s soul through the theme of faith and life. The process of translating the book also gives the translator so many inspirations. Therefore, the translation practice also has its realistic significance.This translation report is divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 is introduction, chapter 2 includes description of the translation process, translation theory and translation strategies, analysis on the translation cases, summary and problems and chapter 3 is conclusion.In chapter 1, the translator gives a brief statement of fiction’s stylistic features, like its lively language with regional characteristics, more dialogues and so on. Also, a brief introduction to the author, the novel and the structure of the practice report are given.In chapter 2, description of the translation process is summarized overview of the entire translation process by the translator, including the preparation, manuscript of translation and revision process after the translation process. Translation theory and translation strategy part introduces Nida’s functional equivalence theory and translation strategies like amplification and omission used under the guidance of the theory. Analysis on the translation cases part conducts mainly in three aspects: translation at lexical level, translation at syntactic level and translation at stylistic level. It is the essence part of this translation report. Summary and problems part summarizes existing problems and the translation experience the translator gets through this translation practice. The author also concludes the necessary qualifications of a valiant translator by thinking those existing problems.In chapter 3, the translator concludes the whole translation report, include the practical significance and its profound influence of translation combing with the translator’s own experience.
