The Research On Gu-shaped Cup In Dawenkou Culture

The object of this thesis is Gu-shaped cup,a typical kind of vessel in Dawenkou Culture,which is widely used in sites of Haidai Region.As an indispensable component of funerary in the early and middle stages of Dawenkou Culture,Gu-shaped cup probably plays an important role in burials at that time.With the development of society,the usage mode of Gu-shaped cup undergo obviously changes,which reflect transformation of social structure.Moreover,Gu-shaped cup is also found in sites of Songze Culture,as a result of propagation process of this objects from Haidai Regiom.So,Gu-shaped cup is a key for us to comprehend the relationship between two regions during Dawenkou Culture.Anyway,Gu-shaped cup is a kind of vessel which has not been fully studied yet.It still have plenty of room for us to explore.This paper aims to analyze the evolution and development of Gu-shaped cup in Dawenkou Culture and Songze Culture from the perspective of typology and discuss the reletionship of Gu-shaped cup discovered in two regions.Because the Gu-shaped cup is fully developed in Dawenkou Culture,this paper selects several typical sites in this area,uses some statistical methods to make a quantitative analysis of the correlation between the Gu-shaped cup and other factors in tombs,and discusses its usage mode in sites.According to the above writing objectives,this paper is divided into the following parts:Chapter 1:Introduction.First of all,a comprehensive review of the unearthed situation of Gu-shaped cup in sites of Dawenkou Culture and Songze Culture as well as past research carried out.Secondly,research object,ideas and methods adopted in this paper are introduced.Chapter 2:Typological study of Gu-shaped cup in Dawenkou Culture.In this chapter,four sites with more Gu-shaped cups are selected.By using the object diagrams in excavation reports,Gu-shaped cups of these sites are classified into specific types.After summarizing the classification of Gu-shaped cups of four sites,the types of Gu-shaped cups in different periods of Dawenkou culture were summarized.Finally,the dynamic change process of the Gu-shaped Cup in Haidai Reigion was investigated.Chapter 3:Typological study of Gu-shaped cup in Songze Culture.This paper selects typical sites of of Songze culture,summarizes development process of Gu-shaped cup in this region.Chapter 4:The connection between Haidai Region and Taihu Lake area on Gu-shaped cup.This chapter makes a direct comparison on the level of Gu-shaped cup and points out the similar characteristics.Then,Taking the background of the communication between Haidai region and Taihu Lake area into account,this paper demonstrates the rationality of the propagation process of Gu-shaped cup from distribution location and other aspects.Chapter 5:Usage mode of Gu-shaped cup in Dawenkou Culture.This chapter discusses the factors affecting the number of cups used in tombs.Four typical sites are selected for studying the usage patterns of Gu-shaped cups in Dawenkou culture.Most of the features in the tombs can be quantified,which makes the chapter mainly use statistical methods to discuss the relationship between GU-shaped Cups and gender,as well as the level of tombs.Chapter 6:Conclusion.This capter summarizes the main points and conclusions of this paper,briefly discusses the shortcomings of this paper.
