Well-known historical and cultural town is the epitome of the regional development,it is a significant component of historical and cultural heritage in our country and plays an important role in inheriting the regional culture.However,the results of investigation and research show that a plenty of well-known historical and cultural towns have been damaged and out of repair for long years,and then in such a case,how to maintain the sound and long-term development of well-known historical and cultural towns becomes a key point of research and exploration for cultural workers.A new breakthrough is to develop the tourism resources of well-known historical and cultural towns and carry forward the regional culture of these towns on the basis of protection.Building up a good brand image is required for the promotion of well-known historical and cultural towns,while establishing a set of systematic and aesthetic visual identification system will be beneficial for people to have a more in-depth understanding and knowledge of well-known historical and cultural towns.Based on this,it is necessary to do in-depth research on the design of visual identification system for well-known historical and cultural towns.In this paper,the design of visual identification system for well-known historical and cultural towns is taken as the object of the research,and beginning with a summary of the source of development of well-known historical and cultural towns,an in-depth study is made on the theoretical structure of visual identification system,and moreover,the status quo of domestic and foreign theoretical research on this topic is analyzed.With the use of the related knowledge of visual communication,the symbols of elements of the regional culture of Nuanquan Town are extracted by means of design techniques,many important nutrients are absorbed from this to lay a solid foundation for the research on the design of visual identification system of Nuanquan Town,In the early stage of design,it is necessary to sort out the information about the geographical conditions,artificial environment and cultural customs of Nuanquan Town.The focus should be put on its space structure,the "point-line-plane" space structure of Nuanquan Town is deeply analyzed,hoping thereby to extract the basic information of elements to construct the visual identification system of Nuanquan Town.Meanwhile,the design philosophy suitable for the visual identification system of Nuanquan Town is finally put forward based on the analysis of Nuanquan Town and the limiting factors for its design.The design of visual identification system starts from the base component,which will command the style and direction of the entire visual identification system.And then,an extended design for the application part of Nuanquan Town is made.Aiming at the construction of visual identification system of Nuanquan Town and with signage system as the key of design,efforts are made to determine the visual directionwith color and symbol elements so that people can identify the guide information rapidly and establish a spiritual link with the culture of Nuanquan Town in this cognition process.In addition,visual identity in the landscape is also emphasized to make a visual identification system with public art attributes,hoping thereby to create the environment of Nuanquan Town and carry forward its regional culture in a better way.
