Carl Czerry,1791-1857,an Austrian composer,music theorist and piano educator.He has created a large number of work which include a wide range of theme and form.As the student of Beethoven and the teacher of Liszt,Czerny is a bridge between the past and the future that he was summarizing the development of piano technology and the theory.The variation on a theme by Rode,composed between 1822 and 1823,is based on the theme of the French violinist Rode's violin work(Air varié,Op.10).The variation on a theme by Rode is composed by an expressive Andante theme,five variations and coda.This work belongs to a representative work in the peak of Czerny's creation,and is also becomes the representative works in variation genre.There are three chapter of this article:The first chapter introduces the composer's life and background including the Czerry's life,historical background and created background.The second chapter,the musical analysis of variation on a theme by Rode.The variation is analyzed in detail through thematic analysis,harmony analysis and musical structure analysis.In addition,this chapter also outlines the classification and development of variations.The third chapter,the analysis of the playing techniques of variation on a theme by Rode.This chapter from the whole and part of the performance of the work from a variety of points of view,skills and style grasp.This article focuses on the analysis of the performance techniques and the overall performance of this work.
