"Water-Colors" is a set of American art songs with Chinese elements.Chinese traditional cultural elements,including literature,music,poetry and so on,are fully displayed in the vocal music suite.Composer John Alden Carpenter interprets the subtle meaning of our ancient poetry with superb composition techniques.Learn to sing this work,whether for foreign art songs or the performance of local art songs can be very good exercise and improvement.The first chapter introduces the development of the American Art songs.The second chapter mainly analyzes the creating background of this work and introduction of the author.The third chapter mainly analyze the music in "Water-Colors".The three songs in this series are analyzed in detail: "On A Screen","The Odalisque" and "Highwaymen".The fourth chapter analyzes the multicultural elements used in the three art songs,and how to better sing this work.Chapter five analyzes the value and significance of learning to sing as a kind of artistic work for personal learning and Chinese cultural communication.In the summary part,through learning and singing this work,we have a clearer understanding and deeper study of this multicultural work.For the future learning with Chinese elements of foreign art songs to lay a good foundation.Also through singing these art songs,learning and promoting Chinese and Western music art culture,hope more Chinese music culture into the world music.
