Simultaneous Interpreting is the process of listening to,comprehending, and instantaneously translating a speaker's statements into another language. In the process of simultaneous interpreting, whether the interpreter can coherently convey the information from the source language to the target language largely depends on the correct use of cohesion devices. It means that cohesion devices are the basis of forming the textual logic as well as the key to the quality of coherence.Among cohesive devices, lexical cohesion plays a key role in establishing the meaning links in the interpretation text. Therefore, this thesis aims to study the use of textual cohesion in interpreting on the basis of previous studies and will do research on the application of Hoey's lexical cohesion theory in simultaneous interpreting by quantitative analysis.Through Hoey's matrix model, the use of various lexical cohesive patterns in the case materials—live webcast of Mark Zuckerberg's Congress Testimony—have been compiled and counted to show the application changes of lexical cohesion devices in English-Chinese interpretation and this thesis has observed how interpreters use lexical cohesion to carry out highly efficient meaning communication tasks in very short time.Consequently, this thesis has found that the usage frequency of repetition-based lexical cohesion is obviously changed in the target language due to the pressure of the simultaneous interpreting task.Meanwhile, the research shows that experienced interpreters are expert in seizing the key words with high repetition frequency that can build meaning to describe the complete central idea. Finally, this paper puts forward some effective interpreting strategies and suggestions for the later interpreters' interpretation practice.
