A Case Study On Interpreting Strategies Of Cohesion And Coherence In C-E Simultaneous Interpreting Of 2019 Huawei Connect

As Chinese high-tech enterprises are booming and become more competitive in the international community,quality simultaneous interpreting is in a higher demand.This thesis aims to focus on the coherence of C-E simultaneous interpreting in science and technology.In the process of research,the author found that there is relatively little research on coherence and cohesive strategies for Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting and there are few corpora in the field of science and technology applied.Taking two C-E simultaneous interpreting of the keynote speeches on the first day of the 2019 Huawei Connect as the research object,this thesis analyzes how to achieve coherence by cohesive devices in two addresses based on the cohesion theory of Halliday and Hasan as well as the concept of cohesion and coherence proposed by Hu Zhuanglin.In this thesis,the author first introduces the research background,explores the research significance,and puts forward the research questions.Furthermore,the author reviews cohesion and coherence strategies summarized previously in scientific and technological interpreting,whereafter she introduced the cohesive theory in Chapter Three.By analyzing two C-E simultaneous interpreting corpora,the author supplements the research on the cohesion and coherence of Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting from a new perspective.Lastly,the conclusions are listed and deficiencies of the research are pointed out.In this thesis,the author noticed that the coherence in interpretation can be divided into explicit coherence and implicit coherence.In general,explicit coherence can be achieved through structural connection,referential connection,and logical connection.Implicit coherence needs to be realized through context,including linguistic context,contextual context and cultural context.This thesis aims to make a valuable supplement to the field of cohesion and coherence through the analysis of the cohesive devices and strategies for achieving coherence in C-E simultaneous interpreting and to make suggestions for future scientific and technological C-E simultaneous interpreting so as to achieve higher quality C-E simultaneous interpretation.
