An Analysis Of English News Translation Based On Lefevere’s Translation Theory

This paper is a translation practice report,which combines practice with theory.Based on the materials translated by the author during her internship in China Daily,this paper mainly demonstrates the influence of three elements in Lefevere’s manipulation theory on news translation.The three elements are poetics,ideology and patronage.The paper analyses the transformation of words,phrases,sentences and so on,and demonstrates that in the process of translation,translators must consider the poetics in order to make the translation conform to the characteristics of modern news text style and enhance its readability;owing to the difference of ideology between China and foreign countries,translators need to translate the original text appropriately according to the characteristics and differences of Chinese and English languages;a patron can be understood as an individual or a group.The tutor from China Daily is regarded as a patron.His instruction and modifications to target texts are also studied in the text,using strategies such as free translation,deletion to make the translation more fluent and so on.Through case studies,the author believes that in the process of news translation,it is indispensable to consider three factors:poetics,ideology and patronage.Under the influence of these three factors,translators need to adopt flexible translation strategies to carry out the target text.At the same time,the translator can not only consider one factor,and the translation is the result of the interaction of various factors.It is hoped that this paper can provide inspiration and reference for future news translation studies.
